Expert advice on language and literacy
With communication and literacy remaining top Government priorities, our NW Show programme includes seminars by leading experts, giving essential advice on how best to build young children’s language and reading skills.
The revised EYFS looks set to focus on reading with children and vocabulary development. So, Andy McCormack, an early years teacher currently studying for his PhD at the Centre for Research in Children’s Literature at the University of Cambridge, will be giving advice on how to build up and make the most of an affordable, high-quality picturebook ‘library’.
Early years consultant and inclusion specialist Julie Revels will turn her attention to two-year-olds and how to scaffold their learning and development in the Prime areas, and communication and language in particular.
Literacy specialist Kym Scott will be giving advice on how to support young children’s early writing, by tracing the developmental stages of mark-making through to becoming an early writer and exploring how high-quality interactions and playful and purposeful mark-making opportunities.
