Nature pedagogy: time, space and freedom to learn outdoors

Saturday, February 4, 2023 10:00 - 11:00

Nature enables a sense of wellbeing that cannot be experienced indoors. Providing children with the time, space and freedom to play in outdoor environments enables them to use their natural learning mechanisms and follow their interests to become deeply involved in their learning. This seminar will explore the role of the adult as co-adventurer and facilitator of children's development and learning. It will propose an active, reflective approach to practice that is co-constructed with the children.

Key takeaways:

  • The importance of time, space and freedom
  • Enabling a ‘sustainability mindset’ in young children
  • Creating environments for physical play and natural learning mechanisms
  • Considering the practical aspects of working outdoors
